James Barnes

James is well-placed to offer advice and support to schools and parents about a range of UK educational matters. He has managed and delivered significant projects on behalf of governing bodies, with a particular emphasis upon school improvement as a result of his relentless focus upon helping schools to achieve excellence in all they do.

Having worked in senior and preparatory schools for nearly thirty years, James’ career encompassed Headship at three preparatory schools; over eighteen years he moved from the tranquil waters of a boarding school of seventy boys to a co-educational day and boarding school of five-hundred. James has worked as a consultant for GEMS UK and has been involved in projects as diverse as the setting up of Sherfield School in Hampshire, the inspection of the Bucharest International School and numerous contracts for senior and preparatory schools. With his deep knowledge of the trends, the people and the teaching and learning environment in the UK school sector, James also offers superb direction regarding school placement for children of all ages.

James is a qualified inspector and appraiser, and has sat on IAPS Council, the IAPS Membership and Inspections Committees and is the IAPS representative on the Independent Schools Council Community Service Committee. He is a trustee of Strive International and Access Sport, chair the Education Committee at The Study School in Wimbledon and is General Secretary of the PSB.
